Week 1 (BRIEF 2)

Week One (Brief 2)-

We have been given a new brief for this semester, which is…

“You are required to produce a series of responses to the subject of Einstein’s Theory of Relativity. Next year marks the centenary of the publication of the final version of his General Theory of Relativity. You are responsible for choosing the target audience and tone of the content for your response. The purpose of this project is to test your ability to adapt complex information, clearly and beautifully across a range of media platforms.”

We was told that we could work as a group for this project, so i decided to work with Natalie Kennet and Bethany Harrington, as i feel we get on well as a group and motivate each other.

Now that we had our brief we needed to decide what kind out output we wanted to chose for our final product, we could chose 3. We decided to chose a Website layout, a smartphone layout/app and print.

Week 5

now that I have created my type I needed to put it into practise. I decided that my type would work well to promote gaming, so i created an advert for a Mario Game featuring my type.

Week 4

This week I decided to start creating my own type. My research really influenced my type as I ended up creating something very similar to that of typographers such as Alex Trochut. The main focus of my type was on the placement of multiple lines.

Week 3

Now that i had gained practise creating existing type, it was time to research and get some influence so that i could create my own. i started by thing about my favourite Logo’s and they type used to create that logo.

SEGA- I like the use of type on the SEGA gaming logo, as i feel it is very futuristic and stands out, i like the bulk of it and the line running through the middle to give it definition. I feel the type is very appropriate for its use. I wanted to find out more about this logo so i went to the Logopedia website to see how this Logo had evolved through time.

DISNEY- Another of my favourite logos is the Disney logo. I love this logo as i feel it has a very friendly magical feel to it! I like the bold handwritten element to it and the emphasis the type puts upon the ‘D’. Again i feel this logo is very fitting to its audience and use, which is something i want my type to be.

After looking at logos i like, i felt it was time to look at recognised typographic designers and their work.

One of my favourite typographic designers is ‘Alex Trochut’ as i like the futuristic element of his work. My personal favourite is his type designed for ‘V Magazine’:

I feel there is a similar element to his work as there is the the SEGA logo I looked at earlier. I will consider his work as an influence when creating my own type.

Week 2

This week i have just been playing around with type and sketching in my sketchbook, trying out different designs and finding styles that i feel comfortable with. At the moment i have just stuck to copying existing type and practised using the grid until i feel confident to start creating my own type. At the moment i am sticking to ‘San Serif’ type, as they are easier than ‘Serif’ type.
